Specialty Alloys Mill Integration Project
PREMIER recently completed a very large integration project for a new specialty alloys mill in Alabama. PREMIER’s work with the mill’s subject matter experts and general contractor began early in the design of the facility and continued throughout the final commissioning and acceptance testing of the controls and information systems. Employees from the company's Smyrna, TN and Decatur, AL locations worked together as a larger, virtual-team at the height of the development and commissioning efforts enabling technical cross training and hardship mitigation.
PREMIER services and capabilities were leveraged early in the design phase to produce detailed specifications and standards for use throughout the facility by process and OEM control systems. Integration gaps were identified and mutually agreed solutions were documented and distributed to stakeholders prior to software development.
PREMIER’s solution was designed utilizing Rockwell Automation’s ControlLogix processors for machine control and data tracking. Rockwell’s FactoryTalk View software and Wonderware’s System Platform were used for visualization and data collection requirements. PREMIER was also part of the team that completed the design, development, and commissioning support for the Wonderware Operations MES solution. Design and development efficiencies were gained in the process and utilities areas by utilizing Rockwell PlantPAx™ process automation system. Rockwell GuardLogix processors were used to implement a plant wide distributed control-reliable safety system for management of all safety zones.
